The World Cup - Phewww!!! It's About To End ....

Initially, I thought of writing a post especially for Paul the Octopus. However, come to think of it, Paul is nothing but another creature in this Universe - slimy at that!!! I have decided and resolved to leave Paul alone in Berlin - huh! Of all the places, why do you pick German as your "adopted" home? Can't you just stay put in Weymouth, England?

Well, in another 45 minutes or so, the World Cup would be put to an end. Which country is going to win the World Cup? Is it Spain or the "Oranje"? Paul the Octopus predicted Spain would win the Cup while Mani the Bird predicted Netherland. As for me, it does not matter as the Germans are not the finalist!!! What I am sure is for the next 4 years, I am allergy to the words "squid", "octopus","sotong" - be it "basah" or "kering".... How could we let this slimy vertebrae predicted and control the game ... Believing in it I am not.

It's football anyway.

But on hindsight, I am just wondering, if I am not "believing" in what Paul had predicted why am I so "angry" with this creature? Is it not a sign of "believing" - even an iota of it?

Perhaps this verse 90-93 of Surah Al Maidah would "convert" me to be an "unbeliever" of Paul the Octopus:

"O believers! Intoxicants and gambling (game of chance), dedication to
stones(paying tribute to idols) and division by arrows lottery) are
the filthy works of Shaitan. Get away from them, so that you may prosper
Shaitan desires to stir up enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants
and gambling, to prevent you from the remembrance of Allah and from Salah
(prayers). Will you not abstain? Obey Allah and obey the Rassol and abstain
from these things. If you do not, then you should know that Our Rasool"s
duty is only to convey My message clearly. There is no blame on those who
believe and do good deeds for what they ate in the past, provided they
abstain from those things which have been made unlawful, then remain
steadfast in their belief and do righteous deeds, then abstain themselves
from whatever they are forbidden and believe in Divine Law, then fear Allah
and do good deeds. For Allah loves those who do good deeds."

So Paul, I will let you "swimming" & "crawling" in peace - you are nothing but another creation & a mortal - just like me ......
