The Mystic Poems of Amir Hamzah & Chairil Anwar

I was reading a book on Amir Hamzah, the royal blood great Indonesian Poet entitled " Mysticism & Poetry - A Hermeneutical Reading of the Poems of Amir Hamzah" written by Md. Salleh Yaapar (DBP - 1995).

In the same "breath" as Rummi, Amir Hamzah's poems are also have deep Sufism influence. I was reading and looking for one particular poem by him and found it in the said book...

I have to reproduced the poem in this posting due to its beautiful rhymes and deep meaning - the poem is entitled "Pada Mu Jua":

"Habis kikis
Segala cintaku hilang terbang
Pulang kembali aku kepadanya
Seperti dahulu.

Kaulah kandil kemerlap
Pelita jendela dimalam gelap
Melambai pulang perlahan
Sabar, setia selalu.

Satu kekasihku
Aku manusia
Rindu rasa
Rindu rupa.

Dimana engkau
Rupa tiada
Suara sayup
Hanya kata merangkai hati.

Engkau cemburu
Engkau ganas
Mangsa aku dalam cakarmu
Bertukar tangkap dengan lepas.

Nanar aku gila sasar
Sayang berulang padamu jua
Engkau pelik menarik ingin
Serupa dara dibalik tirai.

Kasihmu sunyi
Menunggu seorang diri
Lalu waktu - bukan giliranku
Mati hari - bukan kawanku..."

The ever rebellious with chaotic freedom & despair great Indonesian Poet Chairil Anwar of Angkatan 45 wrote a spiritual poem - with quite similar beautiful stanza entitled "Doa":

" Tuhanku
Dalam termangu
Aku masih menyebut namaMu

Biar susah sungguh
Mengingat Kau penuh seluruh

CahayaMu panas suci
tinggal kerdip lilin dikelam sunyi

Tuhanku

Aku hilang bentuk
remuk

Tuhanku

aku mengembara dinegara asing

Tuhanku
dipintuMu aku mengetuk
aku tak bisa berpaling."

A short reminder to me via Surah al Ikhlas 112:[1-4] which reads

" Say: He is Allah the One and Only; Allah is the Self-Sufficient
(independent of all, while all are dependent on Him); He begets not, nor
is He begotten (he has no child, nor He a child of any one); And there is
none comparable to Him"...

Now I feel so "small" and fragile ....
