Both Aishah & I reached our final destination of Trip IV last night (29 July 2010) at 8.12 PM. We put up at Bayu Hotel, Baling - it's quite a decent hotel but do not be misled by the name yea. [Note: So Fahmy, here "tak ada angin mendayu-dayu" as in your "Pantun"].It's not located by the seaside but at the junction of Gerik/Baling Town.
We have travelled for about 1102.2 from Kuala Lumpur on 26 July 2010 and our next point of "target" for today is Memali before proceeding south to Ipoh/Kuala Lumpur.
Our Trip IV took us from Bukit Keluang Resort in Besut at 10.49 AM towards Baling via Pasir Puteh, Tanah Merah, Machang, Jeli and Gerik, Perak. After seeing the beautiful beaches of Terengganu, we were struck by the beautiful scenery & the green of the Banjaran Titiwangsa.
We cut across Kelantan and stopped at 2 places. The first was at Tok Bali at about 11.32 AM - obviously at that point of time it's already "lengang" with no fish & fish mongers on sight!!!! Then at 12.05 PM we stopped at Jeram Pasu on the way towards Machang. It was a pitiful sight - where have all the water goes and the beautiful scenery when I first went there about 21 years ago with Aishah, Abah, Mak and my sisters in law. Aishah was 'mengandungkan" my eldest son, Adil at that time - so you see that's proof of how "pantang" is Aishah seeing "air terjun/jeram"!!!!
After the short stint at Jeram Pasu, we could not resist but proceeded to the border Bazaar town of Rantau Panjang near Sg. Golok. We reached Rantau Panjang at 1.55 PM after travelling for about 861.9 km. True to our guess & expectation, Rantau Panjang is full of activities with people buying and selling. Not to mention the "activities" criss crossing the Sg. Golok via small "sampan"/"perahu".
Aishah & I took a ride by "sampan" from the Malaysian part of Sg. Golok crossing to the Siam part of the riverbank and voila!!! we reached Siam and became PATI (Pendatang Tanpa Izin) for the 1st time in our life!!!! We were in the midst of the hustle & bustle of the trade activities of Sg Golok .... just by the mere rate of paying RM2.00 to the "sampan: operator.
We did not spent much time in Kelantan as Aishah wanted to be in Baling/Pengakalan Hulu to meet up her friend, Nuri.
The journey cutting across the Puncak Titiwangsa from Jeli to Gerik was so beautiful & green... It was an enjoyable journey especially when we stopped by at the Tasik Temenggor/Pulau Banding, Gerik. Alhamdulillah, we managed to safely made it to Gerik then Baling without being "hit" by wild elephants, tapir or deers as what the Warning Signages remind us along the way at Puncak Titiwangsa!!!.
The Trip was ended in perfection as planned in Baling with Aishah managed to meet up her long "lost" friend, Nuri ...
Now it's 9.35 AM and we are about to start our journey to Memali .... To Noh, Fahmy, Sis Haryati & Adik Sally - thanks for your support & "crazy Pantun", I was literally laughing in tears whilst driving along the Puncak Titiwangsa!!!
