It was in the 70s that I first experienced "tengok wayang" ... It was in 1971, if I'm not mistaken. I was in Standard 2 then.
The story goes like this .... I went to a Post Office in Gopeng with Mahayuddin Bin Ayib ... my "Apak" (father) to withdraw money to buy school uniform plus school shoes. Gopeng is a town about 12 km from Kota Bahru (Kota Bahru has no post office!).
We went to Gopeng by Apak's motorcycle - Honda 75, nowadays "Honda Kapcha", I don't think it's in the market anymore. Once done with our shopping errands, Apak dropped the bomb shell!!
"Let's go to Ipoh & watch movie" he said. I was so excited as I never "tengok wayang" before and Ipoh sounded like a very very big town to me!
